Is church becoming a bore? Is prayer now a chore? When was the last time you had a meaningful quiet time or spent quality time with the Lord? Gradually, the things you used to do have lost the measure of pleasure they once gave you. Or perhaps you can’t find the time for them anymore… or maybe you just don’t see the reason to as clearly as before.
You are not alone. The church of Ephesus faced a similar situation. God acknowledges the things you once did as a serious Christian but it is time to rise up again to the task. God said to the church of Ephesus, “I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. (Rev 2:2a &4-5).
It is important to God that the things you once did, you continue to do and with the consistency you once did them or even better. 2 corinthians 15:58 says that “therefore my dear brothers (or sisters) stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work (worship, service, prayer, word study) of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.
Let me highlight a few critical reasons why you must remain faithful and stand your ground:
The days are evil: Be very careful then, how you live, not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. For you were once in darkness but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light. (Eph 5:15-21)
You are Christ’s ambassadors: an ambassador is one who represents the interest of his /her home country. You are a citizens of heaven. You have been sent to earth as an ambassadors of Christ. Therefore you represent the interest of Christ here on earth. Through the life you live, Christ draws others to himself. It is of great essence that you continually do the things Christ would have you do even though you find yourself in a society where everyone does otherwise. (2 Corinthians 5:20).
You are surrounded by witnesses: do not be deceived in thinking that your Christian life is a secret between you and God. Others are watching you and the way you live your life. These are witnesses who are observing your Christian walk so that they will learn from you and do likewise. (Heb 12:1,2)
You are a champion for this generation: You must not fail your generation. You will be surprised at the number of people who look up to you. You must Stand Your Ground and not follow the crowd. A crown awaits you in heaven. For this crown, Paul put everything else behind him and pressed on. You too must Press On!
