Our Savior’s last great command to His followers was to go into all nations and take the Gospel to every creature (Mk. 16:15). We have woefully failed. Considering the worldwide population explosion, we have been failing at a tragic rate to do His will. There are many souls born to die without Christ for every one that is won for Him. Why is that? Did Jesus give us an impossible task? No, He always is willing to give us power to do anything which He commands (Phil. 4:13).

When a Christian wins no soul, he or she ceases to be a useful Christian, for we have no task, no duty, and no responsibility than to win souls. Have you won a soul today? If the church is not winning souls and its members are not doing likewise, then what in the name of God do we gather for and disperse to go and do?

Every Christian, whatever his official title or role, should be characterized by a passion to lead others to Christ. If Jesus did anything at all, he won souls, if God had any reason for sending His one and only son, it is to save the world. Therefore Jesus missed no words at his departure but gave the great commission to His disciples, which has become more a Christian jargon than a Christian practice. (2 Timothy 4:5 Matthew 4:19)

We Need a Passion for Souls

we need a passion for souls, as a church and as believers. Our council meetings must focus on soul winning, as did the early church. Our sermons must be nothing than a passionate call to call the lost world to Christ. If Paul cried: “woe is me if I do not preach the gospel” (Romans 1:16), aren’t we worried for not sharing that sentiment? You need to consider your life worth nothing to you but to be spent to win souls. (Acts 20:24)

John Knox, the father of Presbyterianism, constantly carried the burden for his land. Night after night he prayed on the wooden floor of his hideout refuge from Queen Mary. When his wife pleaded with him to get some sleep, he answered, “How can I sleep when my land is not saved?” Payne reports that often Knox would pray all night in agonizing tones, “Lord, give me Scotland or I die!” God shook Scotland; God gave him Scotland. God respects such a passion for souls.

John Wesley, as he exhorted his pastors upon whom the future of their revival movement depended, urged, “Let us all be of one business. We live only for this, to save our own souls, and the souls of those who hear us.” Again, Wesley cried, “Give me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin and desire nothing but God, and I care not a straw whether they be clergymen or laymen, such alone will shake the gates of hell and set up the kingdom of heaven on earth.” We must graduate beyond singing soul wining to practicing soul winning.

Your aim must be to deliver the soul from a future in hell, set it free present life passions the war against it (2 Timothy 2:22) and from the condemning memories and habits of the past. (Proverbs 14:25). It must be to make that soul a disciple of Christ, teaching the life of obedience and to experience the glorious and satisfying presence of Christ. (Matthew 28:18-20).we will sleep in peace and walk about freely for if souls are saved robbery will

be only a word in the vocabulary. (Amos 5:24). Why do we need to evangelize? (Proverbsl4: 25, Proverbs 11:30, Daniel 12:3, Romansl: 16) give us some reasons.

A most striking example of the urge to win souls triumphing over even imminent death is that of John Harper, a Baptist minister of London, who was lost with the TITANIC. At a conference held in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, a man rose and gave the following testimony: “Four years ago, when I left England on board the TITANIC, I was a careless, godless sinner. I was in this condition on the night when the terrible catastrophe took place. Very soon, with hundreds more, I found myself struggling in the cold, dark waters of the Atlantic. I caught hold of something and clung to it for dear life. The wail of awful distress from the perishing all around was ringing in my ears, when there floated near by me a man who, too, seemed to be clinging to something. He called to me: ‘Is your soul saved?’ I replied: ‘No, it is -not.’ ‘Then,’ said he, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shall be saved.’ We drifted apart for a few minutes, and then we seemed to be driven together once more. ‘Is your soul saved?’ again he cried out. ‘I fear it is not,’ I replied. ‘Then if you will but believe on the Lord Jesus Christ your soul shall be saved,’ was his further message of intense appeal to me. But again the rolling separated us. I heard him call out this message to others as they sank beneath the waters into eternity. There and then, with two miles of water beneath me, in my desperation I cried unto Christ to save me. I believed upon Him and I was saved. In a few minutes I heard this man of God say: ‘I’m going down, I’m going down’ then: ‘No, no, I’m going UP.’ That man was John Harper.” YOU NEED SUCH PASSION!

How to Receive This Passion

Jesus made a promise to His disciples that they should receive a gift of power: “Ye shall receive power, the Holy Ghost coming upon you” (Acts 1:8). The purpose of that spiritual endowment was to enable those who knew Him to be witnesses unto Him, and that, in a word, is the business of every individual believer, and of the Church collectively! The Holy Spirit is Just for asking. (Luke 11:9-13). After you have prayed you will feel in your heart to share the gospel with someone and make sure you are not disobedient to the heavenly voice. (Acts 26:18-20).

  1. Become more passionately committed to Jesus Christ than ever before. (1 Peter 3:15)
  2. Specifically ask God to give you a passion for souls. (Acts4: 23-33)
  3. Ask God to give you sensitivity to others.
  4. Ask God to make you spiritually radiant. Each day ask Him to make you Christ
  5. Ask God for winsome boldness in witnessing.

  1. Ask God to make you confident and positive.
  2. Put constant priority on prayer.

You can set up a weekly seekers meeting to which you will invite your friends and family. You may invite an evangelist initially to participate and help handle questions. You can study relevant areas of scripture towards the goal of wining souls, a family alter of morning devotion will help you bring family and servants to Christ.

You can join an evangelist group in your church to go around wining souls for Christ. The church can create a seekers class where visitors who are not born again as well church members who need Christ can attend. Your interest here is to befriend individuals and help them understand the good news.

  1. Mission

Some Christians spend their leave period in places where people have not heard the gospel. You may find a mission organization that may send you to a place where such need exist. The widespread use of tracts and literature by the false cults should arouse the Christian worker to the great possibilities for good of the distribution of suitable tracts. Souls who would never darken a church door will often read a tract.

Christian friends, it is time for each of us to take inventory. How much are we willing to sacrifice for the One who suffered an agonizing death on the cross for us? Are you, am / willing to go into the highways and byways and bear the reproach of Christ, and be misunderstood and sometimes maligned, in order to satisfy the heart longing of Him who saved us from an awful, eternal hell? He longs to save people all around who are hungry and yearning for someone to call and show a personal interest in their souls. But He needs you and me to care enough to go without some of our accustomed comforts, to be willing to suffer the reproach of men if need be, along with Him, in order to get the job done.
